Pryor among finalists for another national award
At the U.S. Army Awards dinner tonight in San Antonio, Jeannette quarterback Terrelle Pryor will look to add another honor to his growing list.
He is one of six finalists for the U.S. Army Player of the Year Award. "It's an honor and a blessing to be up here with all these guys," Terrelle Pryor said Thursday at a news conference. "They are all great players, too."
Other finalists include linebacker Nigel Bradham of Wakulla High School in Crawford, Fla., who has committed to Florida State; linebacker Arthur Brown of East High School in Wichita, Kan.; Notre Dame quarterback recruit Dayne Crist of Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Calif.; defensive back Patrick Johnson of Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach, Fla.; and running back Darrell Scott of St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura, Calif. Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen won the award last year.
Practice for the East squad was cut short. After a morning practice session, the team broke for lunch and stayed in their position groups for the second half of practice.
Because most of the players haven't played in several weeks, some of them are suffering from soreness and fatigue.
Gateway coach Terry Smith, who is coaching the receivers on the East team, enjoyed the low-key gathering. "We were just talking about life, just kind of picking the kids' brains," he said. "We were talking about education, making good decisions, just trying to relate to the kids and give them some insight to what their next step in life is going to be about."
