Pac-10 tournament to stay in L.A. through 12
LOS ANGELES -- The Pac-10 men's basketball tournament will remain at Staples Center through 2012 as part of a five-year extension Friday between Fox Sports Net and the downtown arena.
Staples has hosted the event since 2002, when the conference resumed its tournament after a 12-year absence. Previously, it was staged at UCLA, Arizona, Arizona State and the Forum in Inglewood.
In 2008, L.A. Live, a restaurant and entertainment complex, is scheduled to open across the street from the arena. The tournament plans to capitalize during its four-day run by staging pep rallies, concerts, interactive fan activities and alumni, student and booster events, according to Tim Leiweke, Staples Center president.
