Kansas Has an Easy Road to the Final Four
I think we all feel comfortable saying Kansas will win its first-round game. The Jayhawks haven't been a safe bet in the tournament lately, but when you've got the play-in winner in the first round, you don't have much to worry about. When the brackets came out Sunday night, though, I figured Kansas had a fairly tough draw because I thought the 8-9 matchup of Kentucky and Villanova gave them a challenging second-round game.
I still think that, but after looking at Ken Pomeroy's analysis, I'd have to agree with him that Kansas got a pretty easy bracket all things considered. The teams Kansas could play in the Sweet 16 (Pomeroy thinks Southern Illinois, Virginia Tech and Illinois all have a 28%-38% chance of getting there) would all likely be fairly easy wins for Kansas. Overall, Pomeroy says Kansas has a 48% chance of getting to the Final Four and a 19% chance of winning the title. Florida, on the other hand, has a 38% chance of getting to the Final Four and an 11% chance of repeating.
Pomeroy is the best in the business at using statistics to break down college basketball, and if you aren't already checking out his site, now is the time to start
