James classic begins in Akron
The second annual King James Shooting Stars Classic begins today at dozens of gyms in Akron.
The three-day AAU basketball tournament, named for Cavaliers forward LeBron James, features more than 400 teams and several premier high school players, including St. Edward forward Delvon Roe, shooting guard Tyreke Evans of Aston, Pa., and point guard Anthony Crater of Flint, Mich.
Evans, Roe and Crater are rated No. 2, No. 5 and No. 11 in their national class, respectively, by Scout.com.
Also of note is forward Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., who is rated 35th. Terrelle Pryor also is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback in the Web site's football rankings, where Ohio State is among the schools he is considering.
Players are age 10 to 17. Sunday's championship game in the 17-year-old division will be played at 3 p.m. at the University of Akron's Rhodes Arena. FSN Ohio will televise the game live.
More than 150 Division I, II and III college coaches will be scouting prospects, tournament director Dru Joyce II said.
The 17-and-under games have been staggered so the coaches can watch more players, he said.
