WPIAL Class AA Roundup: Jeannette, Pryor top Brownsville 60-0 in romp

Games are listed according to the classification of the winning team.

It didn't take Terrelle Pryor very long to put the opening stamp on his senior season.

Try 11 seconds.

The all-everything quarterback took Jeannette's first offensive play 53 yards for a score, pacing the Jayhawks -- ranked No. 1 in the WPIAL by the Post-Gazette -- to an easy 60-0 romp against Brownsville last night.

Terrelle Pryor didn't need to do very much for Jeannette in this Interstate Conference contest, and finished 3 of 4 for 97 yards and a touchdown, while rushing once for 53 yards and that opening score, after Brownville's onside kick attempt backfired.

Running back Jerry Harris was the star for the Jayhawks, scoring four touchdowns.

OTHER GAMES

Beaver Falls 13, New Brighton 8

No. 3-ranked Beaver Falls survived in the Midwestern Athletic Conference, edging the Lions for the Little Brown Jug.

Todd Thomas rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers, while Eric Walker ran for 122 for the Lions. Beaver Falls now has a 54-28-6 lead in a series dating back to 1905.

New Brighton's T.J. Hairiston scored the Lions only touchdown, catching a 14-yard scoring pass from Chris Kirkland. The contest was the head-coaching debut for New Brighton's Mitch Carver.

Brentwood 21, South Park 14

Eric Coxon found Akeem Moore for a 22-yard touchdown pass with 13 seconds remaining, helping the Spartans earn the Century Conference win.

Coxon completed 15 of 25 passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and connected with Moore six of those times for 61 yards.

Seton-LaSalle 19, South Allegheny 8

New Seton-LaSalle quarterback Patric Capatolla had a fine debut, pacing the fourth-ranked Rebels in the Century Conference.

Capatolla finished 15 of 25 for 154 yards and one touchdown, and also ran for a score. Alex Deconciliss added 110 yards rushing on 20 carries for the Rebels, who led 16-0 at halftime.

Cash Cortazzo scored the Gladiators' lone touchdown on a 10-yard fourth-quarter run.

Steel Valley 34, Carlynton 6

Five different players scored on touchdown runs for the Ironmen in a Century Conference win against Carlynton. Steel Valley quarterback Ryan Sabo ran one in from 40 yards and completed 6 of 8 passes for 110 yards.

Washington 16, Waynesburg 0

Chad Smith connected with Remonte Barfield on two touchdown passes, leading the Little Prexies to an Interstate Conference win. Bryan Thomas added a fourth-quarter safety, sacking Waynesburg quarterback Mark Paugh.

Burrell 46, Northgate 7

Troy Highfield rushed 17 times for 110 yards and scored three times as the Bucs ripped the Flames in the Allegheny Conference. Steve Yakopec added two touchdowns, one on an 90-yard kickoff return.

South Fayette 27, Burgettstown 13

Jon Taglianetti had a big say in the Lions opening Century Conference win, completing 10 of 20 passes for two touchdowns and rushing 17 times for 152 yards and one score. The Blue Devils got matching 1-yard scoring runs from Dan Conley and Brenden Bongiorni.

Kittanning 21, Deer Lakes 0

Bob Keys gained 108 yards on 20 carries and scored two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats in an Allegheny Conference game. Kittanning quarterback Andrew Snyder found Alex Brochetti for a 16-yard touchdown pass for the Wildcats opening score.

Freedom 28, Quaker Valley 7

After spotting the Quakers an early 7-0 lead, the Bulldogs prevailed in a Midwestern Athletic Conference game. Mitchell Meyers scored twice for Freedom, on an 18-yard run and a 12-yard reception from quarterback Shawn Lehocky.

Mars 39, Laurel 14

Billy Bair, the WPIAL rushing leader a season ago, torched the Laurel defense to the tune of 212 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Planets to the Tri-County North Conference win at Laurel. Laurel's Tyler Forbes finished 11 of 18 for 216 yards and one touchdown. The two teams tied for the conference title last year.

McGuffey 14, Yough 13

A Yough two-point conversion attempt following a fourth quarter touchdown failed, giving the Highlanders the narrow Interstate Conference win. McGuffey's Bruce Smith scored on runs of 5 and 12 yards. Pat Sior scored on a 60-yard touchdown run for the Cougars and added a 79-yard scoring pass to Bob Bridge.

Ford City 24, Wilmington 0

Carter Hapnoski returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, setting the table for a Sabers shutout victory in a non-conference contest. Ford City's Jordan Eckman tossed two touchdown passes, one each to Ryan Young and Eric Meixelberger.

Beaver 49, Ellwood City 0

Manny Cutlip passed for 173 yards and ran for two touchdowns, leading the Bobcats to the Midwestern Athletic Conference win. Cutlip scored on runs of 65 and 2 yards for the Beaver, who led 29-0 at halftime. Alex George added two touchdowns for the Bobcats, scoring on a 17-yard run and a 23-yard reception. The loss spoiled the coaching debut of Ellwood City's Frank Colao.
