Pryor leads Jeannette to shutout over Waynesburg
JEANETTE - Waynesburg Central found out how good Jeannette's football team is Friday night as the Jayhawks rolled to a 54-0 Interstate conference victory at McKee Stadium.
Soon-to-be-superstar, quarterback Terrelle Pryor played just over a quarter, but made his presence felt in the short time he was on the field.
On Jeannette's second possession, Terrelle Pryor scored his first of three touchdowns on an electrifying 5-yard run which saw him get hemmed in on the left sideline, only to reverse all the way across the field, weaving in-and-out of would-be tacklers before crossing the goal line to give the Jayhawks a quick and decisive 14-0 lead.
On the ensuing Raiders\ possession, Terrelle Pryor made an impact on the defensive side of the ball when he intercepted quarterback Nick Patton to set-up Jeannette deep inside Waynesburg territory. Two plays later, Terrelle Pryor scored on a quarterback keeper from 1-yard out to push the Jayhawks' lead to 21-0.
"It was about what we expected," Waynesburg coach Scott Orndorff said. "We've been playing some solid football defensively this season, but those guys have been dropping 50 on everybody. That is a team that is just clicking on all cylinders right now."
Waynesburg spent the majority of the game playing in the shadows of its own goal line, all the while trying to find an answer for an athletic Jeannette defense, which made its home in the Raider backfield.
"They have so much speed all over the field; you can tell that is one well coached football team," said Orndorff.
"We approached it like we would any other opponent, game planned the same way, but they just have a lot more speed than we do and it showed."
The Raiders' offense was held to only six first downs, and didn't register its first until the 4-minute mark of the second quarter.
Patton finished the game 2-of-7 passing for 15 yards and had three intercepted. He was relieved in the second-half by junior Josh Snyder who completed 3-of-8 passes for 19 yards.
Matt Kabay led the Waynesburg offense with two catches for 16 yards, while D.J. Hardy registered 12 yards on his lone reception.
Jeannette's Jordan Hall finished with a game-high 42 yards on three carries, while senior Mike Matt had 27 on four attempts.
"I told our team after the game that if they want to play for a state championship, that's the level they have to get to," Orndorff said as he pointed towards the Jeannette locker room. "Unless something freaky happens, I think that's your state championship team this season."
The Raiders will have another difficult game next Friday when they go on the road to take on a revamped East Allegheny team.
"Right now I don't know much about them, but we'll get in the film room early tomorrow and get ready for another tough opponent," Orndorff said.
