Youths get opportunity to play with the Buckeyes
Former Ohio State tailback Maurice Hall will host his third annual All-Star Football Camp from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, 2491 Olentangy River Road, Columbus. Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel will make an appearance to address participants.
Many former Ohio State Buckeyes and current NFL players will take the field to support Hall's mission to improve the quality of leadership, discipline and athletic ability for the youth of central Ohio. Hall will also add a new component to his annual camp this year, with a cheerleading camp - coached by Columbus Destroyer Bombshell Cheerleaders and former Ohio State Cheerleaders; as well as a camp for moms on the eve of the football and cheerleading camp.
The new Mo Football for Moms Camp, held at the Longaberger Alumni House from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 11, will educate and inform women on what it takes to raise a successful athlete in today's society. Deb Johnson will discuss the obstacles she faced in raising her son, Jay Richardson of the Oakland Raiders; and David Lee Morgan, author of Coach Tressel's Fundamentals for Football, will address those present. A panel of former Ohio State players will be present for a Q&A session with participants as well.
NFL players slated to participate in the weekend activities include Mike Jenkins of the Atlanta Falcons; Drew Carter of the North Carolina Panthers; Rob Sims of the Seattle Seahawks; Marcus Green of the New Orleans Saint; John Bowie of the Oakland Raiders; Will Allen of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; Bam Childress of the Philadelphia Eagles; Brandon Mitchell of the Houston Texans; Dustin Fox and Ashton Youboty of the Buffalo Bills; Roy Hall, Keiwan Ratliff and Antonio Smith of the Indianapolis Colts; Cie Grant, former New Orleans Saint and Mike Wiley, former Dallas Cowboy.
"My goal is to prepare these young athletes for high school and collegiate football competition through positive experiences,"
Hall said. "Opportunities like my camp can offer kids a chance to listen and learn directly from their local football heroes who came from similar surroundings and proved hard work, determination, and most of all...education, was their key to success."
